THE SIXTH FLEET NEWSLETTER – JUN-JUL-AUG 2006 Edition
To my readers and fans, I really enjoy hearing from you. Your comments on my books provide valuable feedback and help to start the writing day off with the right frame of mind.
I have finished the last of the 3-book DARK PACIFIC manuscripts. DARK PACIFIC III I titled LOST PACIFIC and it will be in the mail soon to my editor, Tom Colgan, at Berkley Publishing Group. Berkley is an imprint of Penguin Group, one of the largest publishing families in the world. Then, I start a new series due for release in 2008. So this great hobby and writing adventure continues. Felicity and I are enjoying retirement, sleeping later, and traveling more often for pleasure. Visited Las Vegas first week of May and contributed to the economy of that great state. Now we are returning for another visit to see if we can bring some of that contribution back home with us.
DARK PACIFIC will be released September 5th at all major bookstores in America. DARK PACIFIC II, called PACIFIC THREAT, will be released sometime in 2007 with DARK PACIFIC III out either late 2007 or early 2008. Here is an excerpt from DARK PACIFIC:
EXCERPT:
The man laughed. “That gentleman has been here for over two years.
You know something? He doesn’t even remember his name…or, so he says.”
Kiang shivered.
The man laughed. The others in the cell joined in the laughter. “No, you
haven’t quite been here that long. Only a month, but even a month can be an eternity.”
Kiang shut his eyes and thought, ‘I’ve been here a month. A month. Now, I know something.’
The next time you are in a bookstore, you might ask the bookseller to reserve a copy for you. Costs nothing and they’ll call you when it comes in.
The war goes on in Iraq and Afghanistan. My thoughts and prayers are with the finest young men and women America and its allies have to offer and who are as you read this in harms way. Let’s hope the changing tides of politics and the strengthening of the Iraqi forces offers opportunities for them to return home soon. Last holiday season, my Web Master, Bill Parker, who is web master to a lot of authors, organized a bunch of us as we sponsored an individual soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine who was forward deployed in harms way. Readers and visitors to the web site were encouraged to send holiday treats, books, etc to our troop who distributed them among the men and women of his or her company.
From my own experiences, it doesn’t have to be the holiday season to light up the face of an American fighting man or woman who is in harms way by sending a letter or small package. Be judicial in what you send. Paperback books are always welcomed and are quickly passed around. According to the Military Postal web site, it takes around 13 days for a letter or package to reach the recipient. Items we take for granted such as talc, toothpaste, underarm deodorant, and soap are some things troops can use. Telephone cards for 10-minutes or longer are needed along with assorted greeting cards that can be used to send greeting to loved ones back here in the states. It is hard to capture everything one needs when you’re deployed until you have your boots on the ground, so think about what you send.
Last summer I predicted that by August 2006 we’d be paying over $3-gallon for gas. Katrina hurried that prediction ahead by 12 months and by September 2005, we were seeing the dreaded $3 a gallon sign across America. I wish I could say it will stay around $3, but the recent spread of the Middle East conflict will see us knocking around $4/gallon by the end of the year and I would be unsurprised to see us reach the $5 mark by the end of next year.
There are economic factors that can mitigate or hasten this $5-mark, but it’s coming. On a positive note, advances in alternate fuels and nano-technology offer great potential for weaning ourselves from our dependence on oil.
As you read DARK PACIFIC, please provide feedback at your convenience. I have really enjoyed this series and believe it is the best of the bunch. DARK PACIFIC is my 9th novel and will be on bookshelves everywhere the week of September 5th. Numbers 10 and 11 will be on the shelves within the next 18-months.
All the best and may you each have a great summer.
Cheers,

American Kiang Zheng learns where his true loyalties lie when is accompanies
his parents to his ancestral home of China. Employed as an engineer with Sea
Base, he is strategically positioned to serve the People's Republic.
Richard Zeichner is a Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent assigned to
Sea Base on its beta-test voyage. But instead of observing the proceedings,

nothing to send the floating fortress to the bottom of the sea.
"When Meadows' men set sail, it's sure to be a mission like no other."
"An absorbing, compelling look at America's future. Visionary, scary. Great battle scenes, believable heroes, plus villains you'll love to hate!"
