Sea Tale
The difference between a sea tale and a fairy tale is that a sea
tale starts with, "This ain't no BS………" Like most, if not
all of you, I receive 'beaucoup de humor' via the Internet and
I save a lot of them. (Yes, that was French, but I believe in
learning as much as you can about your adversary.) Like this
one below, I don't know who wrote it or from whence it came,
but I enjoyed it to no end. So, to the author, my respects for a
well spun Sea Tale.
The Sailor and the Parrott
During World War II, this magician joined the Navy to avoid
being drafted into the army. To keep his skills fine-tuned for
his return to civilian life, the sailor practiced magic every
night to the enjoyment of his shipmates. Nightly, they would
converge on the mess decks, crowding it, trying to figure out
the tricks. The same audience came night after night, but the
magician-sailor changed his magic tricks nightly to improve
his act and keep the audience enthralled.
Everything was fine until a new arrival checked on board
with a pet parrot. The sailor brought the pet parrot to the
magician sailor's show every night and after a couple of
weeks, the parrot began to understand how the sailor did
every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the
middle of the show: "Look, it's not the same hat!" "Look, he's
hiding the flowers under the table." "Hey, why are all the
cards the ace of spades?"
The sailor was furious, but couldn't do anything. After all, the
parrot belonged to someone else, who just happened to be
twice his size.
Suddenly one night during the show, General Quarters
sounded, and the ship took a torpedo. Within minutes it sunk.
The magician sailor regained consciousness to find himself
on a piece of wood in the middle of the sea with, as fate
would have it, the parrot. They stared at each other with
hatred, but not a word did they utter. This went on for a day
and then another day and then another. Finally, on the fourth
day, the parrot could not hold back: "OK, I give up. Where's
the ship?"
JOINT TASK FORCE AFRICA is
Meadows' newest novel scheduled for release in March 2005.
A Navy EP-3E is hit by a missile and before the pilot can
recover control of the aircraft four aircrew bail out over
West Africa, landing in the middle of an African civil war.
It is a fast-pace story as Admiral Holman races to rescue the
Sailors before they are killed or captured.
"Rip-snorting, realistic action-adventure from a man who has been there."
"When Meadows' men set sail, it's sure to be a mission like no other."
"Fast-paced, roller-coaster ride with this exhilarating military thriller. Dynamic writer with a fresh voice in this technical-ridden, yet intriguing genre."
"An absorbing, compelling look at America's future. Visionary, scary. Great battle scenes, believable heroes, plus villains you'll love to hate!"
